Remote inop...well sort of

Post by Old Blue 66 »

All buttons are functional except the unlock button. The yellow button now locks the car and does not turn the lights on. The trunk and the lock button work as they are supposed to. The unlock button does nothing

Any suggestions?

I don't know anything about remotes, does your car lock/unlock properly using the driver door switch? If not, look in your owners manual (I think) and with the fuse diagrams it should show the relays, there locations and there functions. I think the relays for locking/unlocking would be in the rear electrical module in the trunk. Most of the relays are the same, identify which one is the unlocking relay and swap it with another, see if it works. It may have nothing to do with this, but this is an easy check and the relays are relatively cheap to replace.

The door switch works fine.the car unlocks when I put the key in the door too. Its the buttons on the remote that aren't working right.

My first matter of course would be to reset the entire computer. Sometimes the newer cars flip out and do strange things with the electronics, and often a hard-reset can fix these problems. Pull the negative cable off of the battery, turn the key to start, remove the key, and reconnect the cable.

If this doesn't help, your car may need to visit the dealer for a software re-download that should hopefully fix the problem.

Well I took apart the remote last night. Cleaned out all the dirt and dust and it works fine now. Must have ben dirty, who knows. Thanks for the replies.

I even ordered a spare remote from ebay. I know they cant be programed to the car but the screw that holds it together near the key ring is loose and I needed a new case. Ill toss the guts.
