S70 AC misting from vents

Post by ashfield »

Just bought a 1999 s70 with 62K. First drive today in humid hot weather and the AC caused large amounts of intermittent (almost constant) mist to come out of all vents. Running AC in fresh position. It smells strongly of steam (like a radiator). The AC cools fine. Turning it off stops the steam immediately. The heater turned up all the way does not steam. Any ideas?

Check the drains under the wiper cowl one near the timing belt cover the other near the fuse box. I believe there is also a drain from the heater/AC box that can only be accessed from under the car

Thanks. The cowl drains seem fine, but I looked all over under the car for that AC box drain and can't find it. I suspect that may be the problem. The insulation under the car over the cat - the silver and black soft stuff, is wet and dripping, but there is no tube I can see. Looks like removing that insulation to look under it would be chancy and might result in damage. There must be a drain tube somewhere that is supposed to drip direclty on the ground, but darn if I can find it.
