interchange of egines turbo vs non turbo

I have a 94 850 turbo with a failing transmission and worn engine. I was basically my daily driver and it has a good body and interior. I just found a 2.4 litre non turbo engine and tranny assembly with 110 K on CL. The guy said I can use this engine if I install the engine and tranny control unit plus change the exhaust flange. Basically, can I put a non-turbo engine in a turbo chasis without much ado? I really don't care about performance just drivabilty.

Anyone know about this or have you ever done it?

now this may be something that your totally not interested in doing, but i would wonder if it would be possible to swap the manifolds and all the necessary sensors from the old motor onto the new one, use the same wire harness and ecu, tcu may still need to be changed and you would need to run lower boost, maybe just run a hose directly from your turbo to your wastgate actuator, should run 6 psi, N/A pistons may or may not handle that.

Usually people want to go the other way around, but the problem is still there that the entire wiring harness and ECU is different between turbo and non-turbo models.

I'd try to find another turbo engine from an 850; there are plenty of them out there.

even if you change out all the sensors you still need to change the harness? im still a noob to volvos, i remember going through all this type of thing with my dsm

The sensors are, for the most part, the same between turbos and non-turbos.

The configuration heading towards the ECU, however, is different, as is most of the plumbing to/from the turbo for oil and coolant.

o yeah i forgot that you would have to plumb in the coolant and oil lines, good call jablackburn
