Fuel Filter Connections '97 850 Base

Thanks for your help with this one.
While replacing the fuel filter, I am having a rough time installing the new one without leaks.

Perhaps during the course of removal, there was damage to the little orange lock ring that slides onto the filter?
This orange ring has remained on the "outlet" side of the line connection, but was dislodged and has now fallen out of the 'inlet' side.

Is there sealant that keeps this orange ring in place?

same happend to me after a filter change the locking mechanism wasnt holding on or sealing..

had to buy the gas line from filter to engine.... but at least i wasnt a hard job, and part wasnt that expensive i tend not to gamble on gas issues

dealer told me t'was way to go

maybe someone else has other ideas

Also - Do you think that one could use an adhesive to glue / super glue that orange O-ring back into place to fix this issue...? Just a thought.

Don't ever fool around with gas line.
Get new gas line!

Also, does anyone know if the O-ring or the Orange thingy is sold separately?

i bought the gas line directly from the volvo dealer this line has also a pulse something device thats on that line

if i remember its was about $70 to $ 80 cheap insurance

dealer told me no the line comes as a whole no repair kit or parts just for the o rings, prior to buying new i tried to mend it but it just would not hold. tried a worm clamp and if you pull too much to the rear the line might partialy disconnect from that pulse device thing and you will get leaks close to the cat way toooo dangerous

lesson learned get it from dealer its plug and play and no bad surprises and safe

i would not gamble on gas issues this line is too close to very hot parts such as the muffler an catalyc converter

Okey Dokey. Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be going over to the Volvo dealer. Can't seem to find the gas line online anywhere. Thanks again!

with the part number i posted you should find it at one of the advertisers stores

if not call dealer before so if not in stock they will order it for you

As far as I'm aware you cannot buy the orange part, or not in the UK At least Volvos system doesn't list it just the entire pipe. When I damaged the fuel line on my previous 850 from miss understanding the instructions on how to change the filter I replaced the entire pipe with 1/8th or 3/16th 12bar fuel line with a pair of nickle screw up clips cost less than £8, pipe from Volvo is around £80.

I have a few questions:

1. tomlandy: how many miles in your car?
I have 106K and wonder if I should change the fuel hose(s).

2. For those who had to change the fuel hoses: when did you do youra? 120K, 150K, 200K?

3. The Green O-ring: is it available separately?
