I'm looking at two 98 s70's. One is a Turbo with 205k,blown hbead gasket. Other than that car is nice...$1200.

The non-turbo has 140k and says it just needs an AC recharge and blinker doesnt work. Asking $1000.

I know it seems obvious what the better buy is, but I'd love to experience a Turbo, but don't really have the extra money to invest in a blown head and I need to drive ASAP due to me being in a head on collision last night totalling my 97 850.

Feedback, opinions, suggestions? Thank you..

Sounds like the NT is your only option to buy quick and get going. You can always sell it when you find the right turbo.
After all - life is too short not to have a turbo.

I also think you have to go with the non turbo. you cant really argue with less miles, less money and less problems. besides a "blown head gasket" could open up huge can of worms for you. how do you know you wont have the get the head redone.
non turbos aren't that boring anyway, there still pretty quick and fun in sport mode. you just don't get that extra whine from the engine when the turbo punches you past people.
good luck on your decision and i'm sorry about your car.

If you need the car ASAP the NA is the way to go. However, a blown head gasket is a gift in disguise. Rebuilding the engine would mean you would know a lot more about the car and the engine than you would with the NA. After replacing the HG, as well as all other related components you would have a solid motor that will be good to go for years to come. The turbo will be better in the long run I think. Just something to think about.

Thank you guys for the opinions and suggestions. I would love the Turbo, but like I stated I don't have the money to dump into it. Although I would love that experience in working on the motor and what not. So I'm gonna go see the NA s70 tomorrow or Tuesday.

One question....after I was in my accident, I definitely realized how safe and strong Volvos are. As far as the 850 I should say. Now what I'd like to know is, are the newer Volvo's automobile oxes like mine was? I mean if you know or have ownedan 850, u know what I'm talking about. You can feel the strength(body & frame wise) when you are behind the wheel. I will have pics up in the next hour or so. You will see what I mean.

Thank you.

Definetely go for the non-turbo. Turbos, while fun, are a PITA to keep working after a while - everything leaks!!!

I had a Toyota Avalon smash into & scrape the side of mine a few months after I got it. It left nothing but a big (albeit expensive) scrape and a small dent in mine; his bumper was torn off and the quarter panel was smashed in.

I also had a close encounter when a piece of metal flew off the back of a utility truck and shredded one of my front tires - my back end fishtailed around, and smashed over the curb on the divided median at ~ 35 mph. I bent a control arm, and the rest of the car was COMPLETELY fine, I'm sure this would have totalled any lesser car.

Yes, they're definitely just as durable
