In the near future, I am planning on buying a xc90. I am looking for the 2.5T since it is most reliable and economic. I hate to make payments on a car so I am looking for something I can afford to buy cash, which is why I am asking about the 03 xc90s. I found them to be the cheapest obviously.
The biggest difference between the 03 and newer from my understanding is the AWD systems. Is the older AWD system a real reason to avoid buying a 03 xc90? Are there any other things affecting the 03 model? Again I want the 2.5T model and NOT the T6. Also I do all the work on my own cars and am familiar with Volvo and this type of engine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Any reason why I should stay away from a 03 xc90?
Hi,my 03 XC90 has been plagued with problems, 1/ Geartronic gearbox seized up £2700 for second hand replacement
, intercooler started the problem with a hole £400 plus vat, 2/ all sway bars rods had to be replaced (easy for a diy fan £ 24.00 per side / pair, 3/ front bushes and arms replaced £500 + 4/ alloy wheels had to be refurbished due to constant leks at the tyres (flaking alloys) all this has happened to a car 10 months after i bought it and the garage had went bust!!
arghhh, other than that its a great car
, try to get newer if possible or make sure your warranty is upto date or good history, yes i am now grey haired and fairly skint but you only live once enjoy
, Rob
