2002 S80 Fuel Pump issues

My 2002 S80 was acting up recently by stuttering real bad when ever I stopped at a light or stop sign. It seemed like the fuel filter so I changed it and it did help. But a week later when I press the gas pedal it hesitates like it needs a second to push the gas through and I am getting this strong gas smell while I am stopped. I am pretty sure its my fuel pump. And as there is a recall on the fuel pumps of this car type was gonna take it to the dealer and have them replace it but if its not the fuel pump then its gonna cost 115 dollars for them to just look at it, which is something I really don't have right now. So I am really in need of a second opinion before I go to them.
