Engine Miss, maybe

Post by Tboltness »

Hey guys, new member with a few questions.

First, I have a 1989 760 GLE and I found out it needs new motor mounts. A few days after learning that, the engine started acting real funny. It started out shaking and hesitating when I'd take off in R or D and now when it idles in R or D, the whole car has a somewhat violent shake. It's almost like it has a miss but not quite. And when accelerating, it acts like it's lacking power. Surely the motor mounts aren't causing that. Any ideas?

I had my own idea to change the spark plugs and plug wires so I'm going to do that. The plug wires cost $87 and up! So, I just purchased the spark plugs and was going to change them but I'm having a hard time doing that. I can't even get my wrench in the awkward positions the spark plugs are so now I'm going to have to dismantle some stuff. Very frustrating.

Thanks in advance

Holy crap, $87 for wires? They'd better be some pretty damn thick performance wires made of unobtanium!

http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo240tuneup.htm#wire_sets <-- FCP has some good deals.

Use a deep-well socket on the plugs. I can pull all four of mine in under a minute, and I'm don't exactly do it that often.

Sorry for the bump but I managed to change all of the spark plugs and it runs great now! Turns out, 2 of the spark plugs weren't firing well.

This may not be related but i have a question. when my 740 use to work, when i shifted to R, the car kinda bumps backward, the fron kinda feels like it raises aa few CM but the car doesnt roll backward, and when i put it in D, the car does the same thing but feels like it goes down. If i shift R to D and D to R a few times its like my car is rocking back and forth, it that normal? all my other cars dont do that

Could be loose motor or transmission mounts, and/or loose suspension bushings in the rearend.
