High engine speed through whole range - '99 V70

Post by jasonaileo »

Folks,
It recently caught my attention that my '99 V70 non-turbo (150k) is running a higher than normal engine speed through the whole operating range. Instead of idling at 900rpm it idles at 1400rpm. This 500rpm increase occurs at all speeds. The car runs great and I still get about 26mpg with this condition. The higher engine speed is smooth, non-erratic and not noticeable other than looking at the tachometer. The temp gauge still shows the typical rise in the first few miles and then it settles to the typical place. I did swap out the coolant temp sensor a week ago but that had no affect on the engine speed. I did my best to check/listen for vacuum leaks and did not discover any. I had a new ETM put in a year ago before the warranty window closed but I've never heard of this higher engine speed a condition other people have experienced with the faulty designed ETMs. The new ETM only has about 15k on it. The car runs great, shifts as normal and is fun to drive but I cannot isolate the reason for the higher engine speed and I've been unable to find anyone else already posting this condition here. Has anyone experienced this?
