2003 S60 Low Beam Failure

Post by frankm »

2003 S60 AWD, 97,000 miles.
Passenger side low beam went out, I replaced both bulbs but low beams won't come on for either side. Get the lo beam failure message. Checked all the fuses in the engine compartment and passenger compartment. Hi beams work. Fog lights work. Checked the fuse on light switch....
Is there a relay or ballast? There is no power to the harness. Used a new tester and tested the tester before and after to be sure.
I can't find this situation in previous posts and am stumped....

Check the low beam shunt on the panel in the drivers side foot well. Although rare, they have been known to short out.

Cheers,

Hello billr99, What does the shunt look like? I assume it resembles a relay (plastic box plugged into a panel). Thanks. Kira

Actually it looks like a small card with 4 spade lugs sticking out of it. There are 2 or 3 in the relay panel. This link (http://www.xenonvalot.com/xenonfixvolvo.html) shows picture of the culprit.

The low beam failure associated with the HID conversions that is mentioned on hear is an easy fix. the prior post with the link http://www.xenonvalot.com/xenonfixvolvo.html is a spot on, honest fix to this problem. I was hesitant about drilling a 2mm hole in the relay but it really fixed that annoying message indicator.
