Steam from exhaust suddenly....did I cause it?

Post by alexitos4u »

1995 850 Turbo
I think maybe I screwed something up by spraying a lot of contact cleaner at the MAF sensor without removing
the attached intake pipe! Now the steam doesnt stop from the tail pipe, could I have damaged the turbos seals? or damaged the cat ? does water build up in the exhaust after washing, etc.
Im in california and its only 75 degrees outside. I just bought the car few weeks ago and never this much steam.
I drove around after and boy was there smelly steam billowing out, its better now after a few days but there is a bit more than usual at idle like its real cold outside?

Thank You

I doubt you did anything to cause it, but are you losing coolant?

Thanks
No so far no coolant level drop ..the stuff I used was CRC Electric Parts Cleaner
A forklift mechanic friend said that stuff shoudnt hurt anything
I think maybe I put to much water down the exhaust pipe when washing the car
(The original owner garaged the car and shes real clean, so many washing already)
the exhaust tip end pipe does stick up rather than down? I will cover the tip next time I wash her...
I wonder if anyone else has put water down the tip and experienced the same thing?
