Shift Lock related to blinker?

I have been reading for months. I have replaced both the shift lock micro switch (under shifter in console) and the hazard switch BUT occassionally the car won't shift out of park. When this occurs it is marked by a complete failure of the blinkers. Start car-won't shift-use shift lock override-but no blinkers? If you turn the car off and restart it usually all is fine and BOTH the shift lock and blinkers work. I do have the brake pedal switch that I will do when time permits. Can that help? Thanks

That's your ignition switch!

I was confused at the correlation between mine too, but it is the electrical part of the ignition switch that does this. When it acts up, twitch your key and it will probably work again.

Changing it out is very easy, takes about 20 minutes, and the part is about $40.

Just one more question: The ignition switch replacement looks like a tough job based on this (http://volvospeed.com/Repair/ignition_S80.html). Is this the same job or is there a switch that engages the key that I can change out? Any links?

Well, VS is dead at the moment, but I think that one's for the whole ignition collar.

It's very easy - you pull off the steering wheel clamshell (3 or 4 Torx screws on the bottom), unplug the old switch, plug in the new switch, and button it back up.

This is the part you're after, not the whole steering collar:

great thanks! After I finish all these repairs I will eventually get around to replacing the frame of the car....it is always something!

Here's the link for replacing the electrical portion of the ignition switch, it's much simpler than what you were looking at. I have to do my switch too soon.
