5 sp auto tranny drain and fill question....

Post by C@lvin »

How much fluid comes out/goes back in for the 5 speed auto on my 2000 V70? I know for my 98 S70 with the 4 speed it is about 3.25 quarts, is it any different for the 5 speed?

It is better to do a flush by disconnecting the cooler hose.

Suit yourself but myself and many others recommend the drain and fill method.

If the fluid has not been changed in a long time, I think initially 3 drain and fills is much better than shocking the system with all new fluid. After the new fluid from the initial drain+fills has had time to clean up gunk and junk through normal use, then I think the cooler line flush is ideal.

My wife's Volvo is a 2000 S70, 5 speed Auto transmission. I do a drain & fill once per year and I get out the same as your 4 speed--about 3 1/4 quarts.
