I got the left-side cable freed up, but the right one, or the hardware attached to it, is still stuck, and not wanting to break anything, is it advisable to take the screws out in the track and remove that piece of plastic that faces upward, is the end of the cable housing there? I tried spraying a little bit of lube in the other (front) end of that cable housing, but it doesn't work very well. What do people do to free up a stuck cable?

Keep in mind that when you replace the drive motor for your sunroof, it needs to "timed" to the beginning of the open cycle. I recall seeing a post somewhere on this or volvoforum site on the topic. Otherwise, if the motor is at a different place in the cycle, your glass position might be out of sync with the point in the motor cycle.

yes the timing when the roof is repaired must be set
But the problem here is how does one remove the cable and/or guide?
on mine the cable is stuck inside the guide, I pulled and pulled with pliers at both ends and its stuck big time
in the tube guide (as for olpossum ) so it appears the guide and cable must be replaced?
I could tell on mine that the cable does attach to that plastic piece but that piece does not come out after removing those screws it looks like the entire rail must come out! so, how to get the cable out is our question..does the entire roof unit need to drop down to get access to the cable guide and cable?

Yeah you have to drop the headliner and drop he entire sunroof assembly to do any of that stuff. Its really not too bad of a job, just time consuming. I wasnt sure of what parts were needed, so I bought an entire assembly from a junkyard and just swapped over the guide from that one. Took me an afternoon to do all that.

Thanks

Thats what I thought...to get to those cables/guides the roof must come out
the cable is $100 buck new..so an entire sunroof may be a good way to go if the used cables are good(:
