98 v70 plugs question

how long would it take to trigger a CEL with inadequate plugs installed on my car? just bought it, drove it about ten miles then light hit. supposedly just had the plugs and wires changed the day before purchasing, and the wires a noticeably new. BTW, code is p0422.... hope i can find the problem without it being the cat....

If I had a N/A Volvo I'd use the OEM triple prong Volvo plugs. You can get them from any Volvo dealer or at a discount from my sponsors (at top of the page).

10 minutes to a CE light is not out of the ordinary.

But first, just make sure the wires and plugs are installed correctly. So much of these types of problems are user error.

P0422 is for the Cat, and if the car runs fine I think it's just a coincidence that you got the code after changing the plugs. If the car doesn't like the plugs, it will misfire and be noticeably bad to drive.

then there is no chance for misfire. the car runs fine besides the approx 20 mpg with ac. wish it was better. code called for misfire, extreme vacuum leak, oil leaking through the rings or cat. hope its not the latter....

If everything seems to run fine, I think the best thing to do is take a code reader and clear everything. Then see what pops up again and we can tackle each issue accordingly.

I would definately go with the OEM Volvo three prongs as Mathew said.
I posted about plugs and the 98 v70 a year ago when I replaced my wife's plugs with Bosch Plattinums...
Car ran fine for a while then started to act up (misfire) allot.
The dealer carries them and not greatly expensive, or as Matthew said, I usually buy my parts at FCP Grotton and I think a pack of 5 is like $20 give or take.
Our cars do not like plugs that are not Volvo's for some strange reason.

I had the same problem with my S70. I found out the hard way you are farther ahead to replace parts with OEM parts.
