94 850 turbo no spark

Post by volvee850glt »

A couple weeks ago I wrecked my 97 glt :( But i found a 94 turbo for sale but it had no spark
so I figured simple fix with all the parts from my glt. I have replaced the coil, cam sensor, crank sensor, and distributer from my glt but still no spark. I was looking around on here and found someone said something about a speed sensor being the problem, and I know the speedometer does not work in this car. Could it be the speed sensor and if so where is it?

Thanks

I believe they might have been talking about the engine speed sensor (RPM sensor). The speedometer (a tranny speed sensor on a 94) has nothing to do with whether or not the car runs.

Test the wires TO the cam sensor and see what you come up with. You should see 12V to ground (pin 1 to pin 3, pin 3 being towards the firewall), 5V to ground from pin 2 - pin 3, and pin 3 should ohm out 0 ohms, or a very low value to ground.

The RPM sensor should show ~200-500 ohms from the sensor itself if it is operating correctly.

I finally got around to testing the wires today and I didn't get anything. Where should I go from here.

ok I was curious and changed the ecu with the one from my 97 glt and it started right up. Is it bad to change the ecu from a 97 glt to a 94 turbo??

I think they are both Motronic 4.3 versions - it all comes down to emission codes for both cars as to whether or not it will start throwing a CEL.

Some people argue that the 97 GLTs came with a 4.4, some argue that it was a still 4.3. I don't know which it actually is, but I have seen people arguing about it a lot on Volvospeed. Honestly, they are not much different, but don't try to turn on the AC.

If it runs with the other ECU, I would say you have found your problem. An ECU dying is very rare, but it is not unheard of - it happened to older Saabs quite often.

So its not bad to drive around until I can find another ecu? Just no AC?
