I need to restart and then I have power. But I am afraid of anohter stall. Any clues? Nothing is coming up when my mechanic tries to get an error code.

Those symptoms on mine ('94 850) were fixed by cleaning my mechanical Throttle Body or TB (a.k.a. as the ETM, (Electronic Throttle Module?) which are electrical or electro/mechanical from '99 onward and were really defective from '99-'01). If you can't take it apart and clean yourself, which isn't that hard, call your nearest Volvo dealer and explain that this problem is more well known now and insist they clean it for you. (I highly doubt they'll replace it for you since they are getting around $1,000 to replace).

If car starts stalling alll the time, have the CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) looked at. It's accessible and a do-it-yourself replacement job if your handy and have the right tool. You can get the part at the dealer, but it's not cheap but much less than an ETM which also has to be software programmed which is why that is not a DIY job.
