740 Power Window Problems
740 Power Window Problems
All windows on my 88 740 wagon are in the down position and will not go up. This happenened at the same time with no warning. I've replaced the 30 amp fuse with no luck. Any suggestions?

I suspect you have a loose electrical connection at the main power window switch in the driver's door. Even one dropped or broken wire can disable the entire system. Take your driver door panel off and check the connections at the switch. If you haven't done this before, follow this procedure:
There are three retaining clips on the underside edge of the door panel. Lie on the ground and look up at the bottom of your door, and you will see them. Pull the retaining clips.
There is another retaining clip hiding behind the red safety light on the rear edge of the panel. Remove the red lense to expose the clip and remove the clip.
Pop off the speaker cover, it is pressed on. Then remove any retaining screws.
Unscrew and remove the lock botton.
Inside the door handle well, you will see what looks like a plastic flathead screw. Stick a straight blade screwdriver into the slot and turn a quarter turn.
On the top of the inside door handle knob, you will see a rubber plug. Remove the plug to expose the mounting screw. Unscrew the knob and remove.
Now the panel will be ready to take off. Lift up and out to remove. Then disconnect and electrical connections.
Let us know what you find.
