I'm sorry if this question has been answered before/somewhere else; if it has please direct me to that thread. If not could someone please tell me how to install front fog lights on a 1996 Volvo 850 that did not originally come with front fog lights. How to install them and what parts I will need i.e. switches, relays. I've got the fog lights. I recently visited a salvage yard and pulled a relay that I thought I needed, if someone could confirm the correct number that would be great. Also I picked up a front fog light switch. So I basically need to know how to connect everything so it works and what parts, if any, I'm missing to make it works.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Here is what I know:
1) It is pre-wired; the switch plugged into a yellow receptacle that was there behind the blank in the dash and there are plugs for fog light on each side near the bumper
2) I thought I needed to change the "Light Control Relay" from part number:35 23 200 to part number:91 48 880, so I did
3) the fuse for the front fog lights is always hot
4) I'm obviously missing a critical component because I don't get power to the front fog light plugs when the front fog light switch is on and the head lights are on

What am I missing?

Please, any help would be great, thank you.

I'm at my wits end trying to install front fog light in my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT that is pre-wired for the front fog lights. So I went to the salvage yard and picked up a front fog light switch pn:9128536, a light relay pn:9148880, a plug with fog light pn:9148991, and a "J" relay pn:9130269. I plugged the "J" relay into the top left corner outlet on the relay panel underneath the dashboard. I plugged the "plug with fog light" into the bottom middle lime green outlet in the same relay panel. I replaced my current "light relay" under the hood next to the fuse box with pn:9148880. With my key in, turned to acc., head lights on, front fog light switch on - I get no power to the front fog light plugs that are in the front near the bumper. Nor a light on the front fog light switch.

If someone could please tell me what I'm missing, if I plugged everything into the correct spots, I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you for your time and help.

I too am looking to install factory fog lights on my 94 850 which didn't have factory fogs originally. I was able to find a kit with two OEM fog lights and the necessary relays and dash switch needed to get it working. :D

I've been reading some posts where if your car was prewired there should be a yellow plug to the right of the headlight switch in the blank bay? I checked and mine doesn't have this, but it does have the rear fog lights. Would the front fog lights tie in with the rear fogs somehow or are they on separate circuits and use separate switches?

I haven't checked under the front bumper or fenders for fog light wire connections yet. I will look and post back.

Any assistance is appreciated!

Thank you.

The front and rear fog lights are entirely separate circuits.

Look up under the bumper near where the lights mount. The connectors should be nearby, clipped onto a dummy connector. If the wires are present up front, the one in the dash gotta be in there somewhere, try fishing around for it.

Disclaimer: mine is a 1997, yours is a 1994; alter 1 versus alter 2, some things are different.

I did do this to mine about a year and a half ago, and it does work. I also performed the mod to that "jumper plug" so they work even with the headlights off or high beams on. Come to think of it, I wish I could get the rear fogs to work that way too.

Double check all your fuses just to make sure. Re-search the forums and make sure you plugged the J-relay into the right place. For that matter, try swapping the J-relay for another, I suppose it could be bad.

Thank you for the reply kcodyjr.

I looked under the car and didn't notice any dummy connectors. I could have been looking in the wrong area too. I did see mine does have the mounting holes drilled into the bumper. Would the wires be somewhere around there? I'll do a more thorough search around the headlight area this weekend. If I can't find any connectors, I read you can buy a factory harness somewhere?

I should mention mine isn't a GLT.

I'm sorry for all the questions. I appreciate the help.

Thank you.

My '94 doesn't have the plugs either although it is an alter 2 headlight setup. My '96s (the Platinum has the lights already) and the '98 are pre-wired, The '99 XC has the lights factory installed.
