1995 Volvo 850 Service Reset Light Procedure not working

Post by mc2prod »

HI all,

I have been working on this Volvo to get the service light to reset. I complete the procedure with the 4 - 1 - 5 - 1 in the OBD system in the engine compartment with the successful light flashing at the end. The procedure turns off the Service light. I turn the key off and then turn it back to Pos II and the service light starts flashing again. I have done this procedure 6 times in a row successfully but with the same results.

There is something that I may be doing wrong or can it be the system? Please advise.

This seems to be an ever increasing failure in the older 850s, I have not knowingly had it happen to me but then again I take every opportunity to rid myself of the Service Light. Removing the Service Light will remove the problem forever and the car will not know the difference in terms of performance.

The only real alternative is to replace the instrument cluster.

Lee,

Thanks. I will take out the light. That seems like a good solution for this issue.

Is there a way to diable the service light, or simply remove the bulb by acessing the cluster? Thanks!

The real way to diasable the service light is to remove the lamp from the cluster and then stomp on it to make sure it can never come back.
