'96 850 interior courtesy lights

Hey All---
The center switch on the interior courtesy lights seems to be broken. It works in two settings except the setting for when the doors open - the switch does not engage at all for that setting. It's odd because we never play with those buttons - ever. Is it s fuse problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!
Mel

These switches are pretty fragile especially as they age. One hard poke can do one in. They are not up to Volvo general quality. The same switch was broken on my wagon when I got it and I made the dealer replace it.

A rear map light switch on our S70 broke and I took it apart and repaired it. There was a little plastic pin broken off, so I drilled through it and inserted a small finish nail with some polyurethane glue as a splint. Sort of orthopedic surgery. It has been fine for a couple years now. Cost was zero.

If you try to effect a repair, be careful taking a switch apart as the little spring and parts can fly out.

Thanks for the kind reply. We luv our 850 - plan on keeping it for at least 20 years - the regular maintenance though sure is expensive,
