99' S80 Amp Blowing Fuses... help

Post by rebekwl »

Well, yesterday i was blasting my radio, there was a crackling and then no sound. I checked the fuse to the amp and, it was blown. I replaced the fuse and, it blew right away. All the wiring to the amp appears to be tight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
William.

How do I check that? Or would I be better off just putting an aftermarket in, that has a built-in amp?

In my novice opinion, an aftermarket upgrade would make more sense than putting money into an 11 year old amp. You would pick up SAT radio capability which I have grown to love. As far as checking the current amp, I don't have the tech savy to walk you through that.

Okay, so will the speakers play without the stock amp.(Plug and Play radio) Or, do i need to do something special?

Speakers are speakers so to speak, in that a speaker will work connected to any source. The exception is that each speaker is rated by impedance or ohms. Most speakers will be marked on the back with 4 ohms, 8 ohms, 16 ohms. these are most common. (Instead of the word "ohms" they may use the greek letter for Omega) It is important that your amp and speakers are matched to the right impedance so that the speaker does not draw too much power and damage the speaker. Any competant car audio retailer can help you with this.
