C30 Maintenance

Post by bspain »

Could someone please tell me where to find the "pollen filters"? I have a C30 due for maintenance, and one of the items Volvo recommends changing is the "pollen filters" which I understand to be the cabin filters. Since the Volvo maintenance at a dealer is such a "rip," I would like to perform this more cheaply. Anyone done this?

When I picked up my '11 C30 I think they told me it was in the passenger foot-well.

I would go down to my garage and take a look but I am currently working in Germany until the middle of August.

Pollen filter is at the passanger side, remove underdash panel. You have to remove the fuse box to fit new pollen filter.
Most stupid thing i have ever seen.

That could be ugly for a simple filter change.

On the other hand, my wife has an 05 Lexus with 75K on it and the pollen filter looks new and has never been changed. Atlanta has one of the worst pollen seasons there is and it is still clean????

iirc, two T25s to pull the panel under the glovebox/dash on the passenger side, then, pull the carpeting back.
Reach in with your left hand, pull the black electrical box that's to the far left, it just pops down and out, unplug the green harness that's in the upper right part of it so that you can get it all the way out of the way, and then to the left of that box, is the ~1.5x7" (just making a guess) plastic door that comes out and lets you get the cabin filter.

Sounds convoluted and first time might take you an hour while you're just scratching your head, wondering what you're looking at... but once you've got it, takes 15 minutes.

There's another model that you have to remove the gas pedal for ;-)

I think they decided that having the CCM (climate control module) be one neat, complete package was better practice than adding a bunch of ductwork just to make a 30k service item 5 minutes easier to get to. Can't really fault them.

And I agree, at 30k, it's not strictly necessary. Many come out looking pretty clean. A few are filthy. It's really more of a question for the driver: does it smell musty for YOU, is airflow reduced from a clogged filter, do YOU feel it needs changing? Unlike an oil filter, no harm will come from not changing it.

No, P1's (04.5-> s40, v50, c30, 06->c70) have the cabin filter door on left. If it is LHD then that means accel pedal assy comes out. IF it has locking nuts be careful and replace nuts with non locking ones.
