95 850 Turbo Wagon - US
200,000+ miles (odometer quit working)
Suddenly died while running full-speed on highway for about 170 miles in mid-day summer heat - about 100 degrees F. Lost my gas cap about 10 days earlier -- wonder if water made it into the fuel?
Friend is an electrical engineer and former mechanic - confirms no fuel getting to engine, fuel relay is good, says there is a discontinuity between the output spade of the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. Hard to figure out how it could burn up a wire before the fuse blew, but the fuse is good.
It would be nice to have a complete diagram of the routing of the circuit between the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. Is there anything between the two but wire and connector(s)? They didn't engineer some kind of shut-off in case of water in the fuel, did they? And, if so, where is it?
The fuel pump is the larger of the two plastic caps with wires going to them under removable covers on the passenger side right behind the rear seat, isn't it? The smaller one goes to the fuel gauge, right? And the wiring to the fuel pump has a red and a black wire inside a red sheath, yes? Is there only one fuel pump on the 95 850 Turbo Wagon?
My engineer says he wants a schematic and a Wiring ROUTING Diagram, not just the "wiring diagram" as is available in the link on the wiring diagrams page. He's kinda persnikity about stuff like this -- assumptions and guesses are not allowed.
Ever heard of this same problem? Am I missing something here? Where can I get a schematic of the electronics and a diagram of the actual routing of the wiring between the relay and the fuel pump. Looks like we have to inspect every inch of the connection between the relay and the pump to find the discontinuity.
Thanks

I've got one in a .pdf file. It is around 73 MB and I would be happy to email it to you if your ISP will allow a file that big. PM me with an email address and I'll be happy to send it your way.

If you turn the key, and don't hear the pump pressurize, then you have to get a new pump. You can also check the schrader valve for pressure on the fuel rail.
There is a roll over valve, but that seems out of the ordinary. The other cause could be a fuel filter, but sounds odd at highway speeds to go bad, or a fuel pressure regulator. Again, I'd vote for a fuel pump.
You can buy a bosch, and can take apart the old pump, and just replace the pump portion. You do not have to buy the entire assembly. Try Bap-Geon. They sell the kit to replace the pump. Good instructions.
Good luck.
