air conditioner does not blow. 1999 2.9 non-turbo

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

air conditioner does not blow. 1999 2.9 non-turbo

Post by discoveryeagles »

I have a 1999 2.9 liter engine. My a/c was recently recharged with freon. Everything was going well. The fan suddenly stopped blowing. Therefore my defrost,my air conditioner nor my heater is blowing. Asked around and was told that my blower may be out. Wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and if so what did you do and did you have to replace the fan when you replaced the blower?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Have you checked the fuse, #26 in the passenger compartment fuse box?

The fuse is fine. I can hear the blower trying to run when I turn the fan on. I know power is there. My fuse box is on the drivers side, but I did locate the panel to gain access to the motor behind the glove box. Thank you for your input.

Has a foreign body dropped in to the fan causing it to jam? It has been known.

The blower motor resister was bad. I have having it replaced. I also had the antifreeze leaking into the drivers floor board ; discovered that my heater coil had a hole in it. I am having it replaced. Thank you for your help.

My blower resistor ("power unit") just went out too. Were you able to find a reasonably priced one somewhere? Going price seems to be $90 (ebay) to $150 (Autozone) - way out of line for such a simple part. Can anyone recommend a good source for a used one? Thanks...

Regarding your heater core, did you actually find/discover the hole in the core yourself? Or were you told there was a leak in it? The reason I ask is that leaks have been known to occur from I believe it is hardened 'o'rings in the connections to the heater core. Hate to see you replace the core and then find it was just a leak at the connections.
