Coolant Q & A

Post by daedalus »

Hey guys,
I am going to be changing some hoses soon and will be needing to replenish the coolant afterwards. I am wondering what the consensus is on whether to use Volvo OEM coolant or if any decent quality stuff would do. Also, should I drain the whole system and fill with all new, or is is ok to just top it off? Thanks to all!

I was thinking of doing the same on my '01 S80 T6. Called Volvo and I was told any coolant was fine as long as it was phosphate free.

In America I think anything is fine but to error on the side of caution I use Zerex G05. It meets all of the Volvo specs and is phosphate free. The only place I can find it is at NAPA and as I recall it costs around, Un-cut, $12.00 a gallon.

So Lee....
Do you not think it worth it to spend the $$ for Pentofrost NF?

I wouldn't both. Many people have gone with regular "green" brands like Peak and Prestone for 100s of thousands of miles. And even that is technically the correct fluid. Zerex G-05 is the right (OEM) fluid and is the same price as everything else. I run G-05 and have no complaints!
