Disgusting, sorry mate. Hope you get it back unscathed, or a fair insurance settlement.

It was recovered. No word on damage, but a relief. Police are currently dusting for prints etc.

Who the heck steals a 20-year old Volvo to begin with? I had 2 cars that age, and I didn't even bother locking them at night - there were other, much nicer cars on our street more rewarding to steal.

Glad you got it back though :)

After nearly 30 years as a police officer I don't ask questions like that. Some people will steal anything that takes their fancy if they can take it easily and with as little hassle as possible. Newer cars have more sophisticated alarm systems, immobilisers and door locks that are not worn. I have opened old door locks with my pocket knife and then relocked them.

Unfortunately, in some places car theft is not regarded as a serious offence and those who indulge are usually certain the punishment won't fit the crime even if they are caught. One delightful teenager who had only admitted 24 offences, not deemed enough for a custodial sentence, stole a car from the court house car park as he left. The next time he was in court he did receive a custodial sentence because that car belonged to one of the magistrates.
I didn't even bother locking them at night
Insurance companies take a dim view of this.

Good to know the car was recovered, hopefully without any damage.

I live in a very quiet neighborhood, you don't turn into my subdivision unless you live on this street. I never ever thought that something like this would happen on my street.

Apparently, the police were chasing this individual who was walking into unlocked houses a few streets over and started to chase him, some how ended up on my street and ended up in my car. Trust me there are a lot nice cars on the street, not that my 964 isn't! It's in excellent shape for a 91.

Some damage, they're giving me about $1700 for the damages, I had the nicest claims adjuster ever too, the computer wanted him to total it, but he was like there's no reason to total this car.

Good to hear it's -- more or less -- come to a good conclusion. Can you give the name of the insurance company so I can put it in the Opinion/Referrals Forum section?
