Nube with questions about tires, and sunroof and motormounts

Post by Norm228 »

Hi all,
I just bought a 2001 T5 V70 with 180K miles on it. stole the car for $2000. I Love it!
It's got a couple issues, and I wanted to get some opinions.
Issue 1. The car has a really bad shimmy in the front end when you are on the gas, and accelerating. when you let off the gas, it smooths right out. After doing some searching, I'm assuming it's the Motor mounts that are causing it to do this. My Question is, do I need to replace all 3 mounts, or is doing the top one going to fix it?
Issue 2 This car has the upgraded 17" factory wheels on it. they look great! however they have Toyo's in 235/45-17. which I do believe is the correct size for the car and wheel. however, on hard turns, they rub the inner fender wall. now, the man who had this car was 65+ so I don't think it was lowered, I was wondering if the bad motor mounts could be causing it, or if there is something else wrong.
Issue 3 lastly, the sunroof isn't working at all. you do hear a click when you hit the button, but noting moves. even the sunshade won't close.. is there something that will bind up in there and tie everything up so it doesn't work? It is currently closed, and not leaking, so this isn't on my top list of fixes, right now, but it's more of a nice to know if I have a spare hour and want to tinker..

Thanks for your help!

issue #2: the T5 came with the 17" wheels and 235x45x17 tires stock. No rubbing in mine.

issue #3: does the siren from the alarm work? if not, that's why the sunroof doesn't work. Fix the siren

Issue# 3, I should have said that the alarm is working, and (embarrassed) set it off accidentally at a softball game... LOL. when I got the car, the fob wasn't working, so After searching, I assumed it was the Alarm module (EUM), but with a new 5 dollar battery, the fob and all of the functions of the alarm work fine...

The rubbing is caused by a worn out or missing stopper or whatever it's called behind the hub.

I think the rubbing is kind of normal. The clearance is just very very slim with OEM tires, and other brands of tires, even if they're the same size, can be differently shaped. We had some crap tires on the car when we got ours, I put some Toyo Proxes 4s on it and it doesn't rub anymore. Same size.

Our sunroof has issues too and I haven't worked it out yet.
