Windshield wiper linkage assembly - where to buy?

Post by cY2k »

I can't for the life of me find anywhere to buy a wiper linkage assembly from... My motor is fine, it's just that one side of my wiper linkage is completely seized up. Can't even get the locking washer off to pull the shaft out and clean the thing... So I'd like to try to buy a new one.

But I can't find anywhere that sells one... eEuroparts.com , ipdusa.com , FCP... no where.

Anyone ever found one of these somewhere? Obviously a junkyard might work, but I don't really have any nearby me (Albany, NY area).

Thanks!

Have you seen this thread?

It's been a year and half since I did that repair, and they still work perfectly.

definitely did see that, and that's what I tried to do first. problem is that I can't do this step on one side:

6.) Carefully remove the retaining clip from each wiper shaft - slotted screwdriver

because it's so corroded that the clip is seized on there. can't get it off. and I don't want to mess up the clip cause then I won't be able to put it back together even if I do get it apart...

I've been soaking it for a few days and it's not coming off

Clean the shaft area well with a wire brush. After cleaning, you should be able to see the open side of the 'C' clip. Tap on the legs of the clip, trying to push it out of the groove. If you damage the clip, you should be able to find a functional equivalent at the local hardware store.

well, now I'm hosed. at least, my current parts are hosed.

I bent and broke the big metal piece that holds the whole thing together, the frame I guess you'd call it (the big silver part below, I'm pulling this image from the instructions renns linked to above):

I've been trying to get it loose for a few hours, with a combination of crowbars, hammers, etc... Now it's cracked just to the right of motor transmission, where it bends down.

So, now I need a new one. I called my local volvo mechanic, who's got a mini-junkyard at his shop, and he said he'd sell me the wiper assembly, minus the motor because mine is fine, for $90. You guys think that sounds ok?

I also emailed one of the online shops, and while they didn't have it on their site, they said they could get it for me for like ~170 new on a special order. Apparently it's part # 9151782. Not too many results, though, when you google for that part #.

Not totally sure what I'm asking, I guess I just wanted to post an update and vent a bit... :)

$90.00 is not unreasonable.
