Now What? - XC70-Post PTC Cleaning

Post by SniperCat »

I just replaced the rear cam seal (under the distributor cap) and cleaned out the PTC valve. Car ran great for my daughter and the oil leak is gone. I repaired last night. She drove the car to school for her a.m. classes and it drove fine. When she got home at lunch I inspected for oil leak and it wasn't there. So..... I cleaned the engine (with the spark pluc panel removed) with some Simple Green and then rinsed it off. Now the vehicle seems to be running on only 4-cylinders. I don't have a code machine.... any ideas????

You probably have water under the spark plug boots. that will mess things up big time and won't evaporate for a while.

That's exactly what I thought.... so, on the second boot I go to remove.... blammo.... the cord ripped right off the top of the plastic right under the boot. So I now have to get a spark plug wire kit. Off to O'Reilly's ($40 less than local OEM and included the coil wire). After R&R the wire kit... runs great. Thanks folks. If you ever need to R&R a fuel pump.... look me up :D

If the local O'Reilly has a wire kit that actually fits it will get you by but the car won't be happy unless you replace them with the OEM Bougicord wires.

Been there, done that, got the additional bill on the credit card.
