Hi !! I have a volvo xc70 1998, when I start the engine white smoke comes out just for a few moments. Is it possible that the pcv system is not working properly?
If this is the cause, where is the pcv system located?
I also feel the car running heavy when I acelerate.
Please help me out with this.
thanks a lot
Hugo
PCV System.
Symptoms of a plugged PCV include oil: escaping through the top of the engine (oil filler cap), smoke from the dip stick when removed while engine running and smoke out the tail pipe. With a plugged PCV the crank case builds too much pressure and sends oil and pressure out wherever it can. It is a maintenance item that few people know about. I just replaced mine in my 1999 V70 XC. The parts were inexpensive that I bought separately on EBAY. The total cost was about $70.00 which included a new intake gasket. There is a great tutorial on this site although there are slight variations between models.
As far as running heavy? Do you mean loud? hesitation? Poor fuel economy? or other?

Should have told you where it is located. Under the intake manifold on the right side of the engine. It's a black plastic box approx 4"X6". 2 rubber hoses connect from the top, one on the left side and one behind the you will not be able to see.
