Camshaft 'Solenoid'?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Camshaft 'Solenoid'?

Post by RatFace »

I think I've already gotten this information from somewhere on one of these forums, but I've mislaid the info. Sorry. My daughter's '99 S80 T6 has thrown the C0014 code about the camshaft becoming too advanced, and I went into the place where I had seen how to do it and tried to clean the 'valve' as many had suggested. Replaced the cleaned unit but it still threw the code again. I had also found this item somewhere around here to buy, and the price was about $75 to $100. It is the unit that bolts to the head at the end of the exhaust (?) camshaft with 3-4 bolts and has an electrical lead that you attach. Its also the one where everybody said to be sure to get a new gasket. I'm almost 70 and I'm losing some of my memory, so if one of you can help I'd surely appreciate it. Thanks RatFace

I cleaned mine today, it was throwing a code for it so I pulled it off, put some orange blast degreaser in a zippy bag, immersed the the metal part of the solenoid in the degreaser and excerised it with a 12V current. Finally I cleaned it out with braker cleaner. I guess I'll see how it goes...
