window regulator replacement

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

window regulator replacement

Post by speedman »

Hello, there,
The front right glass on my 00 s80 2.9 wont come up, was told to have the window regulator replaced for 450, parts and labor combined, just wonder is there any possibility to get it done in a back yard with no car fixing experience at all?
Thanks

With no experience it would be a tough job. The part itself is around $200. You have to take the door apart, drill out a bunch of rivets, place the part, and reinstall the rivets to hold the regulator in place. I did it on a 1999 S80 and it took about 3 hours. I had help from a pretty handy guy and putting the rivets back in was a challenge.

If you don't know what your doing and you figure in the cost to aggravation ratio then $450 is not a bad deal. As I have learned sometimes it is best to use the checkbook toolbox to complete a job.

Good Luck Dr. Dootz

I have cleaned the DDM with no change , my drivers window works when it wants to. All other switches in the DDM work fine. The car was at dealership for this problem in 2007 , diagnosis was "intermittent fault with driver's window motor". We denied the repair which was $550 , now in 2010 they want $1300 to repair. If it works occasionally , how can it not be the switch ? I have found regulators with motor for $265 , motors for $86 , and DDM's for $316.

Not sure where to start , can the motor be replaced without removing the regulator ?
Can I put a volt meter on the motor wires and see if the switch is sending current to the motor ?
Can you purchase a new circuit pressure switch only for the top of the DDM ?
Does anyone have pics of where the rivets are on the regulator ?

Help ......

I live in Southern California. Went to Ecology auto wrecking and picked up 2 window regulators with motors on them ( for right and left front doors) for only 40 dollars :) They had a %50 off today for holidays. I had to take out the parts myself. The rivets were really hard to take out specially in junk yard that there is no electricity and the window can not be brought down. I had to cut the door open from outside to reach 2 of the rivets:):):) But it was worth the price. I have a 2001 S80.
