Side view mirror position control "joystick"

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Side view mirror position control "joystick"

Post by lgiesbre »

This little switch was cracked in two when I got the car (2000 S80 2.9). The two pieces easily came out of the window regulator unit through the hole on top. The dealer sold me a new little button for the low price of only $13 (for a tiny little plastic piece - why am I suprised?) and the parts guy said that it was easily installed.

So now I am guessing it is easily installed IF you know how to get the cover off the window regulator. I haven't found any posts or repairs that explains this online (here or other volvo sites), so now I am posting a request for help. I easily got the door panel off with the help of instructions from this site (wish the panel on my '00 V70XC came off that easily!), but could not figure out how to remove the regulator. It looks like it is riveted to the panel!

Is anyone willing to share how to do this repair? Otherwise, I'm taking the piece back and will live with the tiny black pin that the piece is supposed to fit onto. If you tell me how to do it, I'll photograph the repair and post it to the site. :)

Cheers,
Lee

I also had the pin in two pieces. I simply left them in the hole and placed super glue on both edges of one part with a tooth pic and pressed them together. Still holding after two years. Careful you don,t get too much in there.

Just an update - I found that I DID save the two pieces and will try the super glue fix. Thanks Uncle Tom. I wouldn't have thought to look for them if you hadn't posted your fix.
