Wheel Size does not match Fuel door sticker

Post by JP2004s60 »

2004 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD

Just started digging in to do some work on my Volvo after spending almost $3k on repairs.

I was looking at buying new tires and came across this problem.

Tires on car are 205-55-R16

Sticker on Fuel door calls for 235-45-R17

Two different sized Wheels! Is this a problem and if so where do I go from here?

Thanks,
john

The 16 inch wheels were the standard (stock) wheels and the 17 inch were extra cost options...Both are listed on my fuel door...

I only have the 235-45-R17 listed. Also, My wheel looks small in the wheel bay now that I look at it.

Am I hurting the car (trany) by using the wrong wheels? I am thinking this mainly because I just had to replace the Angle gear.

If they're all the same size it won't make a difference. 205-55-16 was a stock size IIRC, someone swapped the wheels with another car. I've had dealers do this on new cars, it's not a big deal and won't affect the transmission.

Thanks,
Do you know of a resource that would tell me what wheels I can use on this car (min max sizes etc)? I want to investigate new wheels but want to know what sizes I am looking for.

THanks,
John

An S60 AWD SPORT came with 17s, slightly different seats, homelink and geartronic
An S60AWD sport came with THOR wheels, V70AWDs had Almathea wheels.
These are THORS:

THis is a picture of my current wheels/tires. THis car has been in the shop and to a baseball field only all this week. I know it needs air in tires, I just got it back from the shop late yesterday.

I appreciate the detailed info!

Any idea what my wheels are called? Is there a website that gets into Volvo wheel specifics?

Thanks again JRL,
John
