I have a 95 850GLT standard...In the dash, the amber light comes on indicating a faulty tail light. However, I know the lights are fine, as Volvo just looked at them, AND they have been for a while. I also know the car was in an accident, minor, on the left side of the car along the left rear door I THINK, or maybe along the left front quarterpanel. Honestly I can't remember which.
So everytime I hit my break, the light comes on. But it doesn't always happen when I hit my break. It's a sporadic problem. The lights are always on! I have checked.
So Volvo said it might be a "light relay" of some sort, a part where all the bulbs feed into one port that relays to the computer how much power is being drawn from each bulb. THey think tha's the first likely problem. My concern is how do you determine which is the faulty part when everything seems fine outwardly, even to the mechanics. Once I told them it wasn't abulbs or loose bulbs..they then thought it might be this light relay mechanism.
I don't want to keep replacing everything if the parts aren't broke..only to find the broken one after hours of labor and a lot of replaced good parts, tha's a lot of expensive Swedish parts haha.
Let me know what people think/suggest

I'd reseat all the lights in the back.
If no dice, then replace all the lights in the back.
Like any repair where you're not 100% certain it's a given item, anything you do will be a cost/benefit gamble. Might as well start with the easiest.
