1999 V70XC that I have owned since 02/2006. I purchased it with 78K on the odometer and I am now at 107K. Reading the forums, I feel lucky (so far) in the repairs that needed to be addressed. There, of course, have been maintenance costs. However, I have noticed oil consumption rising along with a just noticed cloud of smoke when on a long trailing throttle down a hill and then back on the throttle. But it has been a great car!

Items that I have replaced since the time I bought the car almost a year ago (11/09):
All five ignition coils, rear seal on angle gear, turbo oil return seal, B+ cable. Items, All little litebulbs inside radio, and some rocker switches on dash.
Items I have repaired that did not need replacing: R/R window swich, tail gate innerpanel was loose, not anymore.
Items previous owner replaced (Thank goodness for good service record keeping, and for him, an extended warranty coverage):
ETM (now wears a yellow sticker), heater core, 2 radiators, expansion tank, A/C evaporator, front struts upper mounts, Angle Gear replacement ($1,900 at Berkly, CA dealer), ABS module, Tailgate innerpanel repair kit, front shifter console and 12V power port.

New member here. Was surprised to see no mention of the PNP switch failure. Had to replace this on both my 1994 and 1996 850 Turbo wagons. Just did the '96 this week at 153,000 miles.

I've lost both upper strut bearings, a thermostat, and the part that goes from the end of the power steering ram over to the right wheel. I replaced both front wheel struts when I replaced the upper bearings.

Have owned a 1994 850 wagon, which I drove from a 103,000 to 210,000 miles. Only problem was that the power window control panel on the center consol had to be replaced--$1000. That was it. Now own a 1998 v70 xc with 105,000 miles, that I just bought 2 months ago. It's in mint condition and the owner had maintenance records showing a trip to the volvo dealership every 5,000 miles. Had to replace a broken engine mount, and replace the rear struts on the back hatch. (I knew they were broken when I bought it.)
One thing I've noticed on this thread is that no one has said anything about transmissions-- with the exception of some clunky shifting. Is this a good sign?
