Brake Booster Procedures

Post by Troybarber »

I have a 02 XC70 that I am going to replace the brake booster in due to the seal on the inside of the car having a bad vacuum leak. The part is $600 from the dealer. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket company for this part. Also, I have experience bleeding the brakes on older cars, but I have never done it on a Volvo. Is there anything unique to this process. Thanks Troy

I've got a booster from a 34,000 mile 2005 S60 that I would be willing to part with for much less than the price the dealer quoted you. If your car does NOT have Dynamic Stability Traction Control, the part is the same. What few times I have bled the brakes on our Volvo's it is basically like doing it on any other car. Someone else here may have much more to add on the bleeding procedure. If I can help you on the part, my email is [email protected] Good luck

don't buy from the junkyard or rebuilt, buy new or you'll be doing it again within a year.

A new ATE (OEM) brake booster can be bought at FCP groton for about $225. Use the MVS coupon for 10% off and free shipping.

What FCP has is for MY01 and earlier. Tasca has new ones for around $450 for the 02 and some later models.

Otis,
I did not know that '02+ were that more expensive.

I just replaced the one for my '01 T5 and it was about $200 :D

The prices for the 2001 ATE are right in my budget. For some reason FCP Groton doesn't offer one for the 2002. Does anyone elese have any ideas on places to buy ATE products for the 2002. Thanks for the help.

Troy,

if your car doesn't have DSTC, just plain STC, the the '01 booster will work. Is the D for dynamic that makes the newer ones expensive.

Check the ATE part number of the one in your car and compare to the one on FCP groton for the 2001 MY. Heck it might work.

My car does not have the DSTC. I checked the part number that is on the car and it is 8683259. The ones listed at FCP groton is 8649491. There is a reproduction listed on Auto Zone/Advance Auto parts website. I have never heard of the company, so I am not to keen on putting their product on the car.

Volvo or ATE supercede(change) their part numbers all the time.

The part number on your booster is 9 years old, so the part number might have changed.

The part number in my '01 booster was different part number to the ATE booster part number I replaced it with, but the parts were identical(both ATE).

Do a cross reference on those part numbers.
