Winter is on its Way!

Hoping someone out there can help to point me in the right direction.
seem to have no heat! blower is fine just not hot air, is it possible that there is something simple i have missed?
I'd love to review a list of possible culprits.
Appreciate the help out there.

Gah, don't remind me

Our month of awesome high-50 and 60 degree days is gone...it's just going to get cold from here on it looks like. Just looking at the weather forecast, we're supposed to get SNOW Friday!

Simple things first: does your dash temperature needle get to the halfway position within 5 minutes or less and then stay there? If not, you need to change your thermostat. Mine decided to go out in the middle of winter when it was like 5 degrees outside...I was FREEZING and my car took more than 15 minutes to warm up.

If that's ok, does moving the dial to full red get you any heat? If so, blow out the temp sensor on the dash near the info/tracs/sunroof switches.

Lastly, if everything else works as it should, then you might have a stuck damper door. Do you hear a "clunking" in the dash like something's trying to move?

Thermostat seems ok needle move within the 5 min. mark. Haven't tried dialing it up to "high" yet but will try this afternoon. Don't recll any "Clunking" in the dash, but I'll pay particular attention this afternoon.

I'm new to volvos but I kept getting SOME cold air and some warm air when using the the heat recently. I'm still not sure exactly the purpose, but after I adjusted the Air Mixture dial down (turn dial up) to nothing, when I called for heat I got heat. On my 850 the dial is to the left of the open/close vent dial in the center on the drivers side. Best of luck.

Perhaps you are describing a "feature" of your car. The center dash vent next to the driver can blow fresh air (ie cold air) on the driver even when the heat is going to all the other vents in order to insure the driver remains approriately "alert"

. It can be adjusted with the extra dial to the left of the two center vents. See your owner's manual. If you don't have one, I think a collection of PDF owner's manuals are available for download somewhere here on MVS. You can also obtain an owner's manual in PDF from Volvo North America's website after (IIRC) you create a username and password.

Tried all items above, get lots of air blowing around, just none of it Hot! (or even warm) Any other suggestions? I'm open to try what I am able.

Are the tubes into and out of the heater core in the engine bay actually hot to the touch? It's possible that either the core or the hoses can be blocked up, especially if the cooling system has largely been ignored on a car.

If those are OK, you might have to dig into it to have a look at the damper motors/flaps. If you put the fan on very low, and then go from full cold to full warm after a few seconds, you should hear something move inside the dash.
