Hello to all,
Poor performance and rich air/fuel ratio? Check the cold air flapper!
Recently bought a 2001 S80 in really nice shape. Gold with tan interior. Ran it home and 2 days later the idle started dropping and fluctuating like the dreaded ETC failure. It threw a MAF and an upstream O2 code. So. I decide to clean the ETC and the MAF. Took both off and used the appropriate cleaners from CRC. While in the air intake system, I removed the starter brace and rerouted the wiring. Then I opened the air filter housing. Cleaned out the bugs and junk. I found a little round disk laying in the bottom. It proved to be part of the thermostatic air intake valve. So, I decided to take the valve off of the housing. What a mis-engineered piece of donkey dung!!! Plastic pivot valve in a clamshell housing. The housing was warped at the square inlet end. The warp was preventing the valve from operating and most of the air was coming in via the hot air hose. I took my heat gun and reformed the plastic. Then I REMOVED the large flapper that had the broken round disk. The disk serves to close off the hot air tube. I put everything back together and connected the battery. Fired up wih no codes and the idle is steady as a rock! I need to drive it and check the idle after it is hot. The erratic idle did not appear until we stopped after a 25 mile or more highway drive. I left the vaccum put intact so there are no leaks and it looks stock.

I just finished the ETM cleaning on my 2000 S80 T6, but am still having the erratic idle problem as well as when I am driving.
All of the symptoms you were having, I am having too. I am not sure, but I think there is little difference between a 2000 and 2001 S80. I am going to investigate the flapper on mine.

I dont think the T6 has the flapper, I think its the N\A motor only. Do you have a check engine light at all? If you havent already, get some fresh spark plugs in there (simple basic coppers are best), make sure they are gapped correctly and see if there is an improvment. The turbos like their plugs.
