1998 AWD rear trailing arm bushings

I have recently seen some interest in the rear trailing arm bushings on the 1998 AWD.

Here are the repair procedures from VADIS. I don't know if this is something one might be able to DIY or not...

I see that you have had no replies.

I wish I could give you some pointers but the AWD rear suspension is completely different than the FWD versions that I have done much work on.

I don't think we are ignoring you - it is simply a matter that we (I at least) don't have a clue as to how to help you.

I was actually posting the info because I had read a few places people were looking for the information, and I had it so I thought I'd put it up in case someone went looking for it. I think I actually linked someone from the Brickboard.com/AWD to this article because of a specific question he had. I chose this board to post to because of the great image and attachment features. Kudos to MVS!

I may end up doing some of this work myself someday, but I was really only posting so it would be available for others.

It's too bad that even VADIS is so skimpy on details for certain jobs, like this one.

I /will/ this summer be replacing the eccentric bolt and bushing on the passenger side of my car (items 27, 28, 29. 30 in the diagram). These parts control the toe of the rear wheels, and on the passenger side the bolt is frozen. The toe is off (though not terribly) and I can't adjust it till I free that bolt, but I think I'll end up ruining the bolt or the bushing or both getting it out. I was lucky enough to find a local alignment shop that actually checks and adjusts the rear wheels (it took many tries, believe you me).

The IRS for these cars is actually pretty neat engineering, esp when it comes to weight, as most of it is built out of magnesium alloy (I think).

Hopefully someone finds this info useful.

I was surprised to find the bushings, 16 in illustration, are the same ones used in 740/940 front control arm for the locating link.
WHen I did a partial RH tank drop to replace fuel pump I pulled the RH trailing arm off and those came out. I replaced dowzens of those years ago when they had a much less robust early version. Then Volvo came out the the cone shaped ones that last well.

Download the files hat are posted. That way you have the name and part number of every part in the diagram.
