2000 S80 Temp. Gauge overheating

I just replaced my bad radiator and started it up. It ideled and heated up normally. I then test drove it, and after 1/4 mile it heated rapidly. I had the cabin heat cranked up, but it was blowing out cool air. I shut the car down to prevent overheating and opened the hood. The cooling fan was running normally. I thought at first maybe the thermostat, but it should blow hot air in the cabin if the motor is getting hot. I am confused. Any thoughts?????

My 99 had a blown headgasket. Are you getting low on water? and look under the car toward the back of the engine and see if you see water dripping outta the back. white smoke from the exhuast, or water in your oil. when you take the cap off of your overfill tank does it fill up rapidly and boil over? All of those are signs you could have a bad head gasket.... Good luck it cost me 2800.00 and change to hve mine replaced.
On that note this car has broken me finacially and i wanna use it to go target shooting

You could easily have an air pocket inside the cooling system somewhere. Take the overflow tank cap off (green) and let the engine idle. After some time, you should hear a 'burp'. And that might help.

Also have heat set on max and massage the hoses to and from the radiator.
