On my daughter's '99 S70 NA, thought rattle coming from serpentine belt area was the belt tensioner, so replaced tensioner and belt. Rattle still there. My independent mechanic did the screwdriver to the ear trick and said it was the power steering pump, but he'd never heard one do that before. My daughter commutes to college five days a week, so I don't want her stranded. Found a PS pump on 2000 S70 at friend's salvage yard, but it appears the pulley may be larger than on the '99. Can anyone verify this and tell me how hard it would be to change out the pulleys if so.
Thanks.

You need to take the belt off and check/spin each and every item individually and verify the source of the rattle.
One may be misled when everything is whirring at once.
Careful with that axe, Eugene.

FYI, Chris Delano of IPDusa responded to my email query with this: The power steering pumps are the same, but they did use different belts in those years which would be related to the pulley.

How does one remove/replace the pulley on the P.S. pump?
Thanks
Thanks
