Drive Shaft Loud ping noise

Post by henrys200v70xc »

Car: 2000 V70XC AWD
Problem: Loud pinging noise when i back up clicking noise when i slow down.
Mechanics have said: Front Coupler, bearings, and drive shaft might be out

Quoted me at $1077 for a new drive shaft. Found Coloradodriveshaft.com that i might use.

My Questions: Do i need a whole new drive shaft or just some part of it?
Where is the best place to go to find reasonable parts?
Can i just change it to FWD and drive it? (the car is in northern wisconsin far from anyone who has worked on a volvo)

thanks!

Wrong forum
Try the 850/70 forum

You can drive it forever in FWD
Just remove the propshaft then see if your noises go away first
It's a process of elimination, but R U sure you want to drive in WI in FWD... NOW, in Dec!???

Welcome to MVS.

You're fine. I moved this topic, and left a marker in the other forum that points here.

Here are a couple topics that discuss how to do remove the propshaft:
98 v70 xc drive shaft removal
Remove rear driveshaft- 99 xc70

Last month, my uncle visited a mechanic to test his front Coupler and bearings. He was asking for a replacement for both two because of some silly noise he was hearing. Upon the diagnosis, the mechanic found out that the problem was the drive shaft. He was advice to replace the drive shaft with a new one. We did what JRL said, to remove the propshaft and that saved us $.
