PV 544 confusion

Hi all,hope someone can help.My B16 motor runs very rough,idles fine but 'breaks up- misses' when revved.Put in new plugs,points,condensor,distributor cap & ignition leads.Rebuilt distributor.Swapped generator for an alternator-charging fine.Compression good and even all round.All 'gap' clearances as per manual. Carburettor cleaned,jets replaced,no vacuum leaks.Inlet manifold-no vacuum leaks.New head gasket,pistons clean and moving freely-- no 'burn' on the old gasket - head skimmed.New fuel filter.The motor has no oil leaks.After all of this I can pull #1 ignitition(spark plug) lead and it makes no difference to the way the motor runs. ??

Sometimes the wires/tuneup kits are bad out of the box. Check the cheap stuff first.
