I have 30,000 mi on my 2007 xc70 and the original pirelli scorpions are already showing wear bands. That is very poor tread life in my opinion. The original tire spec is 205-65-16 98v. Why does this car need a v rated tire?
What are some good tire choices for this car for use in NJ where we do get lots of snow
Thanks
What tires to buy for 2007 xc70
I have a 2005 XC70. I found the Pirelli's noisy and short life. I tried Geolander and they weren't much better. I now put on some Michelin Harmony and found them very smooth and quiet. I do not know the speed rating, but I don't drive more than 70 mph anyway. something that is rated at 140 mph doesn't make much sense to me as an average driver. BUt, I have no idea how they come up with the standards, it just can be speed, it must have to do with nother factors such as load, cornering load, etc.
This is a reposting of one i did recently.

I was looking for a new set of "true" all-season tires for my S60 AWD. I looked at various ones at the online vendors and read reviews plus I have purchased a number of them over the years. Poor treadware, poor winter traction, noisy, poor handling due to soft sidewalls are many of my complaints. Well NO MORE! I stumbled across the Maxxis. I love these these tires!!!!
They do not have any of the issues listed above. It is aggressive, handles tight turns very well and good snow/ice traction. But the prices are awesome! 4 of these shipped to me for $417.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not some lousy chinese tire. Maxxis is an old US company that make alot of high quality ATV and light truck tires (MUDDERS) etc. They have been pushing into the car market more recently. My sister in-law said it had a high listing on Consumer Report tests as well. (I have not personnally seen this). Would give this the highest rating for I great price. Look at the 420AA rating as well!
