95 850 turbo gas line issue, fuel pump question

Post by Dad03 »

Lately I smelt gas pretty hard after a fill up when driving especially with drivers window down.
Today when filling up I notice a spill out as soon as the tank topped off. Well its my turn to deal with that 3/4" fuel line leaking when topping off the tank.

Tonight I got a chance to take a closer look. That line is cracked on the end. I assume it is a vent line and not under any mechanical pressures since its not hooked to the fuel pump assembly. Going to try to snip the end off and repair without dropping the tank.

Another thing I found is on top of the fuel pump inside the reccessed white area had a small bit of gas sitting in it. I was able to reach in and grab the black screw top and give it about 1.5 turns with little effort. Is it possible the loose cap is the reason for the gas on top. I will keep an eye on it.

I was impressed with Volvos design to put in access ports to the pump and sending unit.
