Delay of radio,heater & instrument lights after starting

1999 S70 - After starting the headlights turn on immediately but there is a delay before the radio, heater and instrument lights turn on, also the SRS lamp stays on during this time. This happens after the car has not been started for a while. When the delay is over and everything is back to normal you can restart and everthing functions normally.

My experience was the Electrical part of the Key Switch. It has more than 1 section which gets operated by turning the Key. I disassembled mine and cleaned out excess Lubricant (Grease) which was holding one section open. As a test, try heating the key area with a blow dryer before starting the car. This would make the Switch work fine for me. You can buy the Switch for around $50.00.

My guess? Funky ignition switch or a sticky 105 relay. The switch has the worse track record...
Try turning the ignition switch from locked to run a few times prior to your next start.

Yeah, this sounds like it could be the #105 relay. I had the opposite problem in my 97 850, after I turned the car off on a hot summer day, the radio and blower would stay on a while. See my thread here www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30988&p=141234&hilit=radio#p141234.

Simply swap the 105 and 106 relays and see if the problem moves. New relay was like $20 at the dealer.

kcsprint's biggest problem is that the only dealership in KC is Superior Volvo. Nice enough guys but they are thieves on parts.

If you do need a quality part in KC call Tyler at KCAutosport [(913) 677-0707] and he can usually have the part there by the afternoon if you call in the morning. The pricing isn't quite as good as mail order but you save the freight and get instant satisfaction. The are about 50% of what Superior charges and much quicker.

Beyond that try the CarQuest warehouse which is around 77th and Nieman in Lenexa. CarQuest recently bought WorldPac which has some very decent (OEM) parts and they can match up about anything for you.

Where are the 105 - 106 relays? The relays in the box under the hood don't look the same as on your illustaration.
The stealer did work on the ingnition switch about 6 months ago, they replaced the antenna ring which turned out not to be the problem.

Remove the cover from the fuse box (4 T-25 torx screws) and they are right there.

I am really happy to see this here!! I posted the same problem with my "00 V70 on Nov. 1.

I was convinced that a trip to the dealer was my only hope until today. I read this post, ran right out to the garage and swapped the 105 & 106 relay's. Woohoo, The radio and fan fired right up when I started the car, and the SRS light went out after about 5 seconds. I found the relay (9494424) in stock at one of my favorite local parts houses for $17.75. All European Auto Parts www.alleuro.com. he local Volvo Dealers didn't stock this relay.
With the snow starting to fly, It is nice to have a blower and wipers again.
