For the past few weeks on occasion, turn key..starter turns over motor for a few seconds then seems to disengage. Motor will almost start then the starter makes weird noise like its spinning but then stops turning over motor. Try again and it just makes the spinning WHIRRRR noise.....sounds like its not engaging motor.
Removed starter and looked at teeth on fly wheel/starter...not worn/chipped.
Does this mean my starter is mechanically malfunctioning? I only get the immobilizer
warning after a few failed starts.
I really doubt this is a key/antenna ring issue. This seems to be dependent on outside air temp.....or random
Starter / immobilizer
You don't state the year of your S80 but since you say it's a key start I assume it is an older model. If it were the immobilizer you would not be able to do anything let alone engage the starter motor. Sounds mechanical.
