91 945 turbo
Really stumped on this one. I recently purchased a cluster from salvage, because my speedometer had stopped working. The "new" cluster was exactly like mine except for the clock. My 945 had a clock that was adjusted electrically and the "new" cluster has a clock that is adjusted manually. I said all that to get to my point. The fuel gauge will not operate, does one have anything to do with the other. I even purchased another fuel gauge that I know works and it still will not move off of the peg (empty). Any ideas? Low fuel light is on so it must be getting power and the gauge in the original cluster operated properly. They are not interchangeable.

Having checked our sponsor, MyVolvoPartsOnline, site for part numbers it appears that the original clock, part #3523441, was only used on the '91 - '92 models. Later models used part #9130121. The original fuel gauge, part # 3523036, is listed in VADIS for the '91- '92 model but MyVolvoParts list it as being used on the 760 from '88 - '90. As the 940 was a continuation of the 740/760 range the fuel gauge was probably carried over.
From '93 the clock is listed as part #9130121 and the fuel gauge as part #9130049. Your donor car must have been one of the later models.
Looking at the wiring diagrams for the two fuel gauges I can't see why the later gauge doesn't work as they are basically wired up the same way. It would appear that there is a difference inside the gauges.
Bill.

Thanks for the info Bill. I am going to attempt to put my original clock and fuel gauge with the "new" speedo and see if it will work. If not, I will just estimate fuel use by the odometer. I will post results later.

After checking the clusters very closely, it is apparent that only clusters from 940 SE, 760 and 960 are compatible. 740 and 940 clusters are totally different and the fuel gauge is not in the circuit. Beats me why?
